Because of you, we have smashed the necessary number of government vouchers to get Westerleigh upgraded with the latest and greatest internet connectivity fully paid for by government grants!
Transforming Our Village Internet: A Triumph
Our village once contended with slow and unreliable internet, hampered by antiquated copper cables extending to Chipping Sodbury. As the wiring aged, our online experience worsened, edging towards a nearly unusable connection. In response, we embarked on a quest to revolutionise our internet infrastructure with state-of-the-art fibre optics.
The transition to full fibre has been transformative, guaranteeing high-speed, robust, and efficient internet access, meeting our escalating digital demands. This upgrade has immensely benefited remote workers, online education, e-governance, and those wishing for stable connections with distant family and friends. Notably, it has also enhanced the value of our properties, acknowledging internet access as a vital utility akin to water and electricity.
Our Collective Triumph
Demonstrating extraordinary community spirit, over 90 households and businesses united within a week to switch from the deteriorating copper network to ultrafast fibre broadband. This was achieved through a government grant scheme, with our concerted efforts culminating in success.
This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication of more than a dozen volunteers who diligently distributed leaflets and conducted door-to-door canvassing, raising awareness about the project's importance. Heartfelt thanks to each participant!
Our collective action resulted in around 210 registrations for full fibre upgrades, surpassing our initial target. This overwhelming response negated the need for formal community contracts with Openreach, expediting the fibre installation process.
